Desander

Description

The desander is a critical second-stage solid control device within the solids removal hierarchy of drilling operations. Typically configured with hydrocyclone clusters sized 8", 10", or 12" in diameter, it primarily targets the removal of sand-sized solid particles ranging from ‌44 to 74 microns‌ from the drilling fluid. Positioned downstream of the shale shaker, ‌the desander specifically captures and separates finer solids that bypass the primary shaker screen due to their smaller size.‌ Its core components include the vibrating screen (often acting as an underflow 'mud cleaner' screen for the hydrocyclones), the hydrocyclone assembly, a manifold system distributing flow to the cyclones, and an electric control cabinet. ‌By efficiently removing these abrasive sand particles, the desander protects downstream equipment like pumps and desilters (the next stage), reduces fluid dilution needs, and helps maintain optimal fluid properties essential for drilling efficiency and wellbore stability.‌ Our company can customize products according to customers' needs.
